Who is Prof. Dr. Kürşat YELKEN?
Prof. Dr. M. Kürşat Yelken is an Ear, Nose, Throat and Head/Neck Surgery specialist. Dr. Yelken, a member of the European ENT Board, completed his advanced training in voice disorders at Harvard Medical School, MEEI in the USA.
Born in Kars in 1976, Dr. Yelken graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 2000 and earned his ENT specialist title in 2005 with his thesis titled “Acoustic Analysis Comparison of the Voices of Students Trained in Different Music Genres” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mehmet Külekçi.
Between 2006-2011, he continued his academic career as a faculty member at Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty of Medicine. During 2008-2009, with a TÜBİTAK scholarship, he trained on voice disorders at Harvard Medical School, MEEI Laryngology Department. He earned his associate professorship in 2011 and full professorship in 2016. Yelken has published nearly 40 articles in international and national peer-reviewed journals and presented around 60 papers at scientific meetings, which were also published in proceedings. He participated as a researcher in various laryngology projects at Harvard Medical School, and one of these projects was awarded research funding.
Prof. Dr. M. Kürşat Yelken is known for his work and research on voice disorders. He received musical training at Üsküdar Musiki Cemiyeti and plays the oud and guitar. He especially focuses on professional voice acoustic analysis for vocal artists. Yelken is a member of the Voice, Speech and Swallowing Disorders Association, Turkish Laryngology Association, Turkish Ear Nose Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Association and Turkish Ear Nose Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Foundation.
