Voice Disorders Are Treated with “Voice Aesthetics”

Prof. Dr. Kürşat Yelken, Head of the Audiology Department at Üsküdar University and an ENT specialist, stated that it is possible to change the voice through surgery, and that people who are not satisfied with the tone of their voice can have it altered through a surgery called voice aesthetics. Experienced speech therapists, who also serve as faculty members at the ENT Clinic supported scientifically by Üsküdar University, offer solutions for diagnosing and treating speech disorders. Prof. Dr. Kürşat Yelken from Üsküdar University NP Feneryolu Medical Center emphasized that, at the “Voice, Speech, and Swallowing Disorders Center,” treatments are provided not only for ENT diseases but also for voice, speech, and swallowing disorders.

Electrical Stimulation Technique (VitalStim Therapy) in Swallowing Treatment

Prof. Dr. Kürşat Yelken explained that for patients with swallowing-related problems, they perform endoscopic swallowing evaluations by feeding liquids, semi-solids, and solids. He noted that one of the most effective methods used in swallowing rehabilitation and treatment is the “Electrical Stimulation Technique (VitalStim Therapy).” Prof. Dr. Yelken stated, “With this technique applied in our center, the muscles functioning during swallowing in patients with swallowing disorders are electrically stimulated to ensure they work correctly.”

Tonsil and Adenoid Issues Most Common in Children

Highlighting that the center diagnoses and treats all kinds of voice, speech, and swallowing disorders, Prof. Dr. Yelken underlined that among ENT diseases, the most common problems seen in children are adenoid and tonsil issues.

Voice Can Be Changed Through Surgery

Yelken noted that the voice can be altered by surgery, saying, “Male voices can be changed to female and female voices to male. If a person is not satisfied with the tone of their voice, it can be modified through a surgery called voice aesthetics.”

Prof. Dr. Kürşat Yelken added, “Hoarseness is a common condition among professional voice users such as singers, actors, teachers, marketers, or lawyers. In our center, we perform both vocal cord surgeries and voice therapy for professional voice users. Additionally, for early-stage laryngeal (vocal cord) cancers, we can treat cancer using laser through the mouth without making incisions in the neck or creating holes.” He emphasized that the Voice, Speech, and Swallowing Disorders Center diagnoses and treats all voice disorders.
